The Directorate of Civil Defense in Jeddah will test the newly installed sirens next Wednesday. These sirens are installed on dams in the valleys: Qous, Mthob, Galil and Alasla, the purpose of this test is to check the readiness of the system, and accustom all residents to hear their sounds and to identify all tones of the sirens.
The Director of Civil Defense in Jeddah, Brigadier General Turki Al-Harthi said that the number of sirens in Jeddah are 59 sirens, that have been installed recently, and thier range covers 33 neighborhoods, the alarm sound can be heard full or partial and this depends on several factors such as: location of siren, direction of winds, and noise.
The Head of Civil Protection, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Zahrani, explained that the aim of this experiment is to test the system, and introduce it to the residents to understand the different tones, and the functions of each tone. He also explained that these sirens are linked through an electronic system within separate control rooms that operate across radio waves by means of solar energy. These sirens are electronically tested to ensure their validity, and there two types: 500 and 1000 watts, and can operate in full or in part.
